Weltklasse Zürich will inspire people around the world on two consecutive nights again this year. We will be celebrating the world’s finest sport on Sechseläutenplatz, a beautiful venue overlooking Lake Zurich on Wednesday, 7 September and at Letzigrund Stadium, a legendary stage to the world of athletics, on Thursday, 8 September.
Long jumpers to be back at Letzigrund Stadium
There will be six competitions on Wednesday night, and another 26 on Thursday night according to the new schedule for the Wanda Diamond League Final. Thus, there will be one more event to be held at Letzigrund Stadium than last year. As in 2021, both 5000m races will be staged on a special track leading around the Opernhaus Zürich and Sechseläutenplatz. And both shot put events will be held in the temporary arena on Zurich’s most famous square again this year. While long jumpers will be back at Letzigrund Stadium, the athletes in the men’s high jump will be able to enjoy the extraordinary setting and atmosphere for the first time. Finally, instead of a long jump pit, a pole vault landing mat will be installed for the world’s best female pole vaulters. Click here for the schedule with all 32 final events.
Weltklasse Zürich takes athletics action to the public
After restrictions related to the pandemic in 2021, this year, Weltklasse Zürich will get very close to achieving one of its major goals – making athletics action accessible to as many people as possible. The ambition includes a significant increase in the number of spectators on Sechseläutenplatz. Access to these areas will be free of charge. Letzigrund Stadium, in turn, is expected to be packed again this year. Fans may want to secure their tickets early on.

More than an event
The Weltklasse Zürich brand has long been relevant beyond its two competition nights. UBS Kids Cup, our programme for young talents, introduces students between the age of seven and 15 to the basic events of athletics – running, jumping and throwing. No other initiative gets more Swiss kids moving. We do not only promote the stars of tomorrow, however. Weltklasse Zürich supports grassroots sport in in its Leichtathlketik-Club Zürich, five Swiss “Diamonds” at the Athletikzentrum für Spitzensport OYM, and several national athletics stars. In addition, we inspire millions of users on digital platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter.
