Just after Athletissima Lausanne, we start glancing at what may be in store for the second Wanda Diamond League stop in Switzerland on 31 August – for Weltklasse Zürich.
One of the 2023 highlights will be the 100m hurdles, a race that will feature Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (PUR), world champion Tobi Amusan (NGR), and Kendra Harrison (USA), who preceded her as world record holder. Fans of Swiss athletes will be particularly delighted to see the 21-year-old Ditaji Kambundji. The former UBS Kids Cup medal winner quickly approaches the circle of the best sprint hurdlers in the world.
Steeplechase queens in front of a sold-out seating audience
The women’s 3000m steeplechase may turn out to be another high-level duel between Olympic champions Peruth Chemutai (UGA) and world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech (KEN). All competitors, including Swiss national record holder Chiara Scherrer, will be cheered by an excited crowd at a sold-out Letzigrund Stadium (no more seats available).
Javelin show in Zurich’s night sky
When Neeraj Chopra (IND) sends his javelin into the Zurich sky, his opponents – world champion Anderson Peters (GRN), Olympic silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch (CZE), or European champion Julian Weber (GER), for instance – and millions of viewers will be looking on. The first Indian Olympic champion in athletics is considered a hero in the world’s most populous country, but he still feels quite at home in Switzerland, as well. So far, his three Wanda Diamond League appearances in Lausanne and Zurich have reaped three wins.
A few Tickets for the standing area are still available.
