In the area of social sustainability, Weltklasse Zürich is proactive, working on a number of high-level projects throughout the year. And this year, Jugend trainiert mit Weltklasse Zürich, the meeting’s kids clinic and the country’s most popular training session is back. In addition, various other firmly established sports projects for children and young adults in the city and region are under way, including the UBS Kids Cup, the Weltklasse Zürich Extra Mile (a project for schools), and the Weltklasse Zürich Zoo Run.
During the Weltklasse Zürich week of events, we will attach great importance to environmental sustainability. Our goal is to reduce our carbon footprint and thus emissions by working with innovative products and working on smart adjustments. For the first time, there will be a digital meeting guide instead of the printed programme booklet, for instance. The guide provides all visitors with updated entry lists, statistics, and exciting background information – all while avoiding waste paper.
Reducing meat consumption will be the key word as far as our catering services are concerned: More vegetarian and locally produced food will be offered to both our hospitality guests and visitors at Letzigrund Stadium and to guests at meeting hotels.
Weltklasse Zürich has also had its services and suppliers reviewed this year. The analyses were conducted for the purpose of this year’s World Athletics audit, a process that will be mandatory for all meetings as of 2024. Participating on a voluntary basis, Weltklasse Zürich was the first meeting to undergo the audit already in 2023.
“This week, we are going implement all sustainability measures we decided to tackle at the beginning of the year. Working towards sustainability is not a sprint event, it is a marathon. Together with our partners, we are well on the way to achieve our goals for 2028,” underlines Weltklasse Zürich Co-Meeting Director Christoph Joho.
