Sanya Richards-Ross was today’s guest star at the Weltklasse Zürich media conference. The 400m World Champion is currently recovering from a quadriceps injury suffered in training. Instead of travelling on to compete at the inaugural meeting of the IAAF Diamond League, the track star, who married New York Giant Aaron Ross this winter, will therefore spend a week in Switzerland.
She will be treated by the Zurich-based physiotherapist Adrik Mantingh during her stay, so that she will be able to be back on track as soon as possible. "It is not too bad. I hope to be back in Oslo," Richards explained.
If the IAAF Diamond League ambassador will be ready to run in Oslo, she will still have six out of seven competitions on her hunt for the much sought-after Diamond Trophy. One of fixture will be Zurich on 19 August, where double scores will be awarded. "My goal is always to win," she said. If she succeeds in doing just that, the trophy will be hers, and it will be presented to her on the occasion of Weltklasse Zürich at Letzigrund Stadium.
Richards has fond memories of Zurich: „Zurich is my favourite place to compete." This comes as little surprise, as with her series of five wins, she has been one of the absolute favourites of the Zurich crowd ever since.
