Just about 100 days to go until the stars of athletics meet at Weltklasse Zürich again. Stadium tickets for the meeting went on sale to the general public today. And already, there is a first record to be announced: More than 22 000 of all 25 000 available have already been sold, as the two Weltklasse Zürich Co-Meeting Directors Andreas Hediger and Christoph Joho confirmed on the occasion of a media day of Swiss athletics organisations in Bern.
Record run on Weltklasse Zürich stadium tickets
Christoph Joho, Co-Meeting Director of Weltklasse Zürich, explained that stadium tickets were in fact selling at record speed. “Tickets were going fast last year already, and the stadium sold out earlier than most years. But this year, the first categories were fully booked within just a few hours. There are no more family tickets, for instance. By noon, we sold 22 000 out of 25 000 tickets today,” he explained.
Women’s pole vault at Zurich Main Station, a hurdling festival, and the Swiss stars’ favourite events
As always, fans will get to enjoy an exciting mix of field events and races. Switzerland’s stars, including Mujinga and Ditaji Kambundji, Jason Joseph, Simon Ehammer, Angelica Moser, Lore Hoffmann, and Audrey Werro, will all be able to shine in their specialty events. In addition, all four hurdling events (high hurdles, and both the men’s and women’s 400m hurdles) will be official Diamond League events this year.
A first Weltklasse Zürich highlight, the women’s pole vault competition, will be happening at Zurich Main Station on Wednesday night already. After an exciting show on the highest level, the bar will be literally quite high again this year.
“We are happy to be able to present great events that offer breathtaking performances and exciting competitions. Our programme of events will again draw both the greatest international stars of our sport and our own local heroes to Letzigrund Stadium,” Co-Meeting Director Andreas Hediger explained.
Weltklasse Zürich 365 – exciting and inspiring Weltklasse projects and activities troughout the year
In addition to staging one of the world’s most prestigious athletics meeting, Weltklasse Zürich launched many initiatives and established successful projects in recent years. There is the country’s largest youth sport series, the multi-award-winning UBS Kids Cup, for instance. And a number of projects, including the Weltklasse Zürich Zoo Run or the Weltklasse Zürich Extra Mile, have become important fixtures in the Weltklasse Zürich set of events.
A record number of participants had signed up to jog through the zoo for a good cause at the Weltklasse Zürich Zoo Run last week. The Weltklasse Zürich Extra Mile, a programme promoting sports, has been designed for schools and provides teachers with pre-designed lessons. A collaboration with various organisations (including with BSC Young Boys at Wankdorf Stadium), the Extra Mile will be tackled by students in six cantons throughout the German-speaking part of Switzerland this year.
